Mobile Apps

Fitness and Wellness Apps

There are apps for literally everything nowadays. Want to keep track of your bowel movements? Download Places I've Pooped to monitor the geographical journey of your poops, and share with your friends! I know, it sounds crazy but it's a real app that thousands of people are downloading and this unique app is a perfect example of how our world is quickly becoming mobile.

Although apps regarding bowel movements are apparently on the rise, fitness and wellness apps are doing considerably well, too. Since the pandemic, there has been a 54% increase in fitness and wellness app downloads. These apps allow fitness lovers to track their progress in a convenient place while promoting healthy habits and lifestyles. Popular mobile fitness and wellness apps mimic physical trainers, giving personalized workouts and diets to consumers starting their fitness journeys. These apps often offer nutritional information, calorie counters, wellness entries, and fitness trackers. MyFitnessPal was one of the first apps to provide fitness tracking, which focuses on personal nutrition, water, fitness, and weight loss goals.

One of the newest developments in fitness and wellness mobile apps is the promotion and creation by fitness influencers

Workout apps provide a convenient aspect of working out, and when they are designed by popular influencers, there is a trust aspect about the exercises provided.

Alive Overview

Alive has over 20,000 five-star reviews on the App Store. The app is highly reviewed for its diverse options for skill and intensity levels of workouts available to users. The app is free to download on the App Store and Google Play, but a subscription is required to access daily workouts and programs offered inside the app.

Alive offers a 7-day free trial when you first download the app, after the trial is over, a monthly subscription and yearly subscription are available for purchase. The monthly subscription is $14.99 per month, and the yearly is a total of $119.99

Alive offers five programs:

  • Alive (Alive Beginner, Alive 1.0, Alive 2.0)

  • Alive At-Home (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert)

  • Alive Strong (Alive Strong 2.0)

  • Alive Inside (Alive Inside 2.0)

  • 3-Day Essentials (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

The programs range in levels of difficulty and typically last for 8-10 weeks. Users can view each program and workout on the Alive app and website.

Along with the workout programs, the app has more than 1,000 daily workouts and several 30-day challenges available. The workouts are divided into several categories including abs, HIIT, warmups and cooldowns, upper, legs, and at-home workouts.

To personalize your experience, there are options to manually enter your weight per rep to document your journey for each workout. Not everyone's gym days are the same, so Alive also lets you customize your weekly schedule with each program to align with your personal schedule in the gym.

Each workout and every program is equipped with easy-to-access video demonstrations, rep counts, and a rest timer. The app also includes alternatives to each workout to make it easier for beginners to navigate within the gym, while still targeting the specific muscle group in the workout.

For Apple users, the app connects to the Fitness app on iPhones and will share data about your personal fitness goals on your Apple Fitness. The app is also compatible with Apple watches, displaying the rep counts and rest timer to create a more convenient way to access the app while exercising.

Not only does Alive have an expansive library of workouts, but each workout is also demonstrated in a quick video by Whitney, creating a convenient and mobile fitness trainer.

Alive is a perfect mobile gym companion, allowing fitness enthusiasts and beginners to document their workout journeys.

When you download the app, you are able to create a personal profile which is used to track your progress, monitor your goals, and celebrate your achievements.

Your Alive "Journey" will also monitor your weight (if you choose) and provides a place to add progress pictures inside the app. Whitney is a huge advocate for mental health, and she incorporates this within her app through her "Gratitude Journal" feature.

The journal entries can be used to document workouts of course, but the journaling is meant to create an easy and safe place to store the things in life you are grateful for.

This simple feature is a unique addition to the app that brings a personalized and positive touch to create an encouraging mental health platform.
